February 12th - 5 sacks

Today was the first day with, yes, breaking news… my new TROLLEY!

I really shouldn’t be this excited, but I am. It made such a huge difference and I wouldn’t have been able to collect as much as I did without it – 5 huge sack loads today from the Oscroft Loop.

I wanted to get out early so I could get up the road and try the trolley without getting in people’s way and it’s become clear that I need to attach some flashing lights to it and I will brand it with some artwork too to help raise awareness of what I do and improve my own safety.

I had a run yesterday and I was planning on doing this loop next week but having seen the level of rubbish, I had to go this way. Just as well I did.

As I left Oscroft along Shay Lane I had this misfortune of my two repeat offenders. The person who ‘flings’ their poo bags (34 found just on this stretch today – see my bin FULL of them) into the hedges and ditches and again, my Stella alcoholic’ who loves to stuff cans in hedges, throw them in farmer’s fields and in the ditches from Kelsall to Tarvin.

Another full sack of cans and a retched smelly sack full of discarded poo bags. Guys, its clear now but for how long… Not long I’m sure. This person needs to be found, reported and fined £1,000 for every bag they drop!

I also decided that now I have my trolley I could afford to do the Barrow Triangle as I call it. I’ve not been down here for months and I’m glad I did.

I managed to collect 2 whole sacks just from this patch alone, including a huge hoard of disgusted Gas Chargers used by children predominantly to suck out the gas and ‘get high’ fuelling the ‘laughing gas’ epidemic.

I want to thank Liz R who stopped me for a chat and who has said I have spurred her on to take a carrier bag out with her on her walks like she used to when living in Spain. Also, thanks to Russel, Mark and Neil who stopped to chat and support me on their Sunday bike ride.

Also, one last and very important thank you has to go to Garrett at Cheshire West and Chester Council for being the only one who has really made any effort to help me in the last six years, thank you Garrett.

I am proud to live where I do and I am also proud to be collecting this rubbish in my own time but it is more than a one-man job. We need a coordinated team effort which is permanent and sustained. If you could volunteer or help me raise funds for tools, please, click the button…
