Tarvin Village

March 10th - 11 Sacks

The last time I did this stretch of road was at the start of lockdown. I felt it was safe back then as the roads were all but deserted and I could move freely along the Bypass. Of course, back then, I collected 12 sacks in one day and I did the entire stretch from Roundabout to slip lane in one day.

Today was the 2nd part of this exercise, my last trip out collected 7 sacks, today, I collected 11! So, a total of 18 sacks in the same stretch of road. Disgusting.

I shouldn’t be doing this, I know, it is very dangerous. I do what I can to be safer, I worse a 3/4 length high vis jacket, I kept my back to the hedge so as to see cars coming and I stayed on the grass verge, regardless, it is scary but if I don’t do it, who is? The council certainly don’t and they plants are so overgrown along the bypass, I couldn’t risk the sections where the brambles and hawthorn grow over the road but nevertheless, I accomplished what I set out to do.

At one stage, a small silver car drove past and a young person climbed out of the window and hung out as they drove past shouting obscenities at me, I think they thought I was a homeless ‘bag lady’, wrong in any situation, unnecessary and offensive but I was undeterred.

I do not plan on going back to the bypass for a long time now I have to re-focus on internal village routes and I only covered the verges internal tot he village, the side from Tarporley toward Chester has not been touched.

My shoes are ruined, I had blisters and was in pain but in my eyes, I made Tarvin better.

Can you Help?

I am proud to live where I do and I am also proud to be collecting this rubbish in my own time but it is more than a one-man job. We need a coordinated team effort which is permanent and sustained. If you could volunteer or help me raise funds for tools, please, click the button…
